I am a cartoonist responsible for the webcomic Guttersnipe. I also authored the comic "Malleus Maleficarum," available from SLG publishing.
Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
Our variant cover! We’ve totally re-imagined Skutch to draw in female readers who want to see, like, more women portrayed in comics. Pretty sure this is what they meant.

We are so very very close! If ever a time there was for all good men to come to the aid of their country, by which I mean a satirical comic kickstarter project, now is it!
I have a feeling people will prefer THIS variant cover, which was created by the esteemable Jennifer Albright at www.trickunicorn.com . Go ahead, I’m not offended if that’s the case. I like it better too! XD
The variant cover we came up for Misunderstanding Comics. I think it looks really boss, if I do say so myself! I hope you enjoy it too.

Remember, time is running out! Help us make goal so we can provide you with quality entertainment. For once in your life, donate to a worthwhile kickstarter instead of some bullshit pie-in-the-sky video game project full of hookerbots.
More fun with Misunderstanding Comics! This is another page that we tried and tried to beat into shape but it just resisted all out best efforts. Oh, there’s some good stuff on here. Maybe some of it is good enough to salvage. Mostly just that Elfquest panel. I like that one. But you won’t see this page as it appears here anywhere else. And I’m not just saying that because of that big weird white space at the time. This is another page that just didn’t make enough people LAUGH OUT LOUD. We have really high standards for this book.

NOT GOOD ENOUGH
That has been my constant watchword while working on this project. No page is ever good enough because we only want THE ABSOLUTE BEST to go into this book. We doodled up this early draft but we don’t think it’s astute enough to make it into the finished book. Because we want jokes that are honed to a RAZOR POINT. Wait, no, razor’s don’t have points, do they? They have edges. Okay, honed to a RAZOR’S EDGE or something comprable.
I’ll post some more rejected drafts in days to come. As for now, can you guess who we’re ribbing here? This is an important question! If you can’t, you’ll understand why this page was scrapped.
Anyway, we thought you’d enjoy seeing how the sausage is being made and see some of our work in progress.

Big news, everyone! One of the funniest guys I know has asked me to illustrate a hilarious new graphic novel, “Misunderstanding Comics.”
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/timtoon/misunderstanding-comics
It’s a really fun and funny satire of Scott McCloud’s seminal work ‘Understanding Comics.’ It pokes fun at all your favorite comic archetypes, from the giant muscle-pile, pouch-loving monstrosities of the Liefeldian 90s to the giant eyed, tiny mouthed flying panty-stealing robots of manga to the ‘two guys play video games’ world of webcomics. This is the definitive guide to how to do comics wrong. Remember: You can’t understand comics until you MISUNDERSTAND comics! 88 pages of bad comic insanity, including:
— The History of Comics – Why comics and “fine” art ain’t so different.
— Misunderstanding Art – How your skill and talent are holding you back.
— How to Misunderstand Characters – How to create compelling characters, and do you even need to?
— Storytelling – We distill ideas from the top names in comics, reducing a lifetime of innovation to a punchline.
— Web Comics & Self-Publishing – When no one else will print your web comic about a zombie robot pirate ninja who loves bacon.
— Manga & Everything Wrong with Japan – It’s not all school girl uniforms and tentacle rape. Just most of it.
— Intellectual Comics – Feign intellectualism with bigger words and smaller fonts.
— Comic Book Collectors & Other Fanboys – The people who pay your salary and how to exploit them.
— Making Good Money with Bad Ideas – Take this book, for example.

So who are these people behind this project? Well, you should know me by now. In case you don’t, I’m a cartoonist whose work has appeared in Firrlough, Genus, and Monsterhaus and has a graphic novel (Malleus Maleficarum http://www.amazon.com/Malleus-Maleficarum-Original-Medievl-catching/dp/1593622139 ) available from SLG Publishing. I have have a number of web comics under my belt — Witchprickers (http://buxompiratewench.comicgenesis.com) , Murry Purry Fresh and Furry (www.murrypurry.com) , and Guttersnipe (www.guttersnipecomic.com) . So, yeah, I think you can trust me to actually DO the work to get this happening. I’m not like some of these flash-in-the-pan kickstarter artists who are all ‘OoOOooO look at me, I’m some kid who once drew a picture of sailor moon in my notebook, now give me money to publish a 5000 page graphic novel about how I’m the lost alien prince of mobius.’ I’m a guy who draws stuff and meets deadlines. That’s what I do.
And Tim? He is one of the funniest, non-SHOW-cohosting people I’ve ever met. He’s the writer and director of the web series Assignment: Unexplained ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRD52QZCRRU&list=PL6C3842C3D291D423&index=1&feature=plpp_video ) and Emergency 411 ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9VXzMkMgpk&list=PLB1CB1E62164F2EAC&index=1&feature=plpp_video ). He’s also the man behind Normal Activity ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PDSKT9Pc64 ), the ‘Paranormal Activity’ spoof that still makes me laugh. Check some of those links out if you want to know if he’s got the joke-writing chops to match my joke-drawing chops.
The script for this book is really hilarious and I’d really like to see it happen. You can help and look at all the awesome swag you get for donating! Why, you’d be a fool not to! And, even if you can’t donate, spread the word! Let’s see what the Internet can really do to get good ideas going.
